Feature Article: Tai Chi and its role in disease processes
Most of you have read the recent headlines – “Tai Chi helps people with Fibromyalgia” (see the clip below). How very exciting! As well, recent studies have shown that tai chi practice can help those with vestibular disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, shingles, and improve sleep, immune function and control stress. Wow. In almost ever study, tai chi comes out a winner.
Perhaps, just perhaps, tai chi practice will help in almost any disease. Think about it. Slow, gentle movement of almost every part of the body, deep breathing to nourish cells, stimulate the immune system and reduce stress, and a peaceful mindset to increase relaxation. Pretty well has to help, doesn’t it?
Doctor permitting, I would suggest tai chi is good for whatever ails you (even if there hasn’t YET been a study).
And even better, why wait for an ailment? If tai chi is so good at helping people deal with disease, one might consider that it will be even better at PREVENTING problems. Our society is prone to “getting” something and then dealing with it. I would encourage you, dear readers, to do what you can to “not get” something.
Long and short of it. If you are dealing with a problem, Easy Tai Chi and 4 Minute Fitness practice may help. And if you don’t want a problem, Easy Tai Chi and 4 Minute Fitness practice may help.
Be proactive. Practice a few minutes every day. You are worth it..
Here is the most recent study information:
Tai Chi better than stretching in Fibromyalgia study
The slow, flowing movements of tai chi are better for relieving pain and other symptoms of Fibromyalgia than conventional stretching exercises, doctors reported on Wednesday. “Week by week they changed. The pain and depression improved. They feel better, people said it changed their lives” according to study leader Dr. Wang. They also reported better sleep quality and improved physical conditions.

Question Period – “Pain Free” Free Gift – Getting it on your MP3 player
Q. Dear Dr. Jeffery, I listened to the free gift – pain free audio – and I love. Would it be possible for you to send it to me in a way that I can use in my ‘meditation space’ rather than from my computer.
A. Hi Gayle, I’m glad you have found benefits using this recording. We don’t have it in a “shippable” format, but this may help. Right click on the link that opens the recording. Click “Save target as” and choose a destination on your computer. The desktop is easiest. That will save the recording onto your computer. From there, drag it (or Import it) into your I Tunes or other program and sync it to your MP3 player. You can then play it using your earphones or any machine that broadcasts MP3 recordings.
FYI – this recording is found in your “Free Gifts” page: www.easytaichi.com/free-gifts.htm
A few of paraprosdokian sentences, for a change of pace:
“Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes, that way when you criticize them, you’re a mile away and you have their shoes.” Jack Handley
“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those other forms that have been tried.” Winston Churchill
“Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. ”
“Evening news is where they begin with ‘Good evening’, and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.”
Food Question – super vitamin?
Q: I’m hearing more and more about Vitamin D. Besides bone building, what does it do?
A: Seems like this Vitamin has a plethora of helpful functions! And it may be that the recommended doses are not nearly enough. Animal studies have indicated that Vit. D may prevent cancer by suppressing the cell growth and blood vessel formation that feed tumours. Some studies suggest that Vit. D has a protective effect on the heart, controlling the release of stress hormones that lead to high blood pressure and inflammation. Those same anti-inflammatory effects may protect against diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. And recent studies suggest that more Vit. D can lessen or control the symptoms of depression.
And the best part is that Vit. D supplements are very inexpensive, making it accessible to anyone. I have read of people taking as much as 2000 IU – 14,000 IU/day (the recommended intake is about 400 IU/day), but DO NOT take high doses without doing your own research or consulting with your health care practitioner. I cannot make any recommendations, but my goal is to raise awareness of this remarkable and often forgotten vitamin.
