Add Battery Power to Your Portfolio

Still in its early stages today, the lithium-ion battery industry is rapidly emerging as a manufacturing and high-tech hot spot in the world economy. Politicians, the press, and environmentalists are talking about hybrid and electric cars. President Obama’s efforts to push battery-operated electric and hybrid cars and other products relying on lithium batteries for power have shone a spotlight on the industry.

Credit Suisse released an in-depth report on the Lithium industry on October 1st. Please contact me if you would like a copy of this 57-page report. In it, analyst John McNulty writes that they expect robust lithium volume growth of 7.2% from 2009-2015 and demand growth of 10.3% from 2009-2020.

In August the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) granted Source: Credit Suisse, SQM $2.4 Billion to 48 companies in the electric and hybrid vehicle sector with nine companies receiving government grants for cell, battery and materials manufacturing.

Raymond James Latin America analyst Francisco Schumacher reiterated our expectations for strong lithium-ion car battery consumption growth over the medium-term. Here is a list of some of the companies involved in the sector:
