Profit by Empowering Women

The total number of people living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2008 was 33.4 million according to a recent report published in November 2009 by UNAIDS: 15.7 million or 47% of those infected were women. The proportion of women living with HIV/AIDS has grown exponentially from 8% of those infected in 1985.

Taking Control of Our Own Health

  • The need for HIV/AIDS prevention is obvious, yet the lack of education and public support for condom use and sex education in developing nations has made this task extremely difficult.
  • In a bid to prevent the spread of disease the World Health Organization approved bulk purchases of the Female Condom by United Nations agencies in 2006.
  • Encouraging women to take control of family planning through contraception leads to greater female condom use since in many areas women are not empowered to influence their partners.

Since the 1990s the Female Health Company has been making steady progress in greater support for and acceptance of Female Condoms. Multiple clinical studies consistently demonstrate that when the Female Condom is made available as an option there is a higher percentage of protected sex acts and a decrease in sexually transmitted infections. The Female Condom, while available in North America, is primarily distributed by public health organizations and donor groups in developing nations and is currently sold in about 100 countries worldwide.
