Busy? Stressed? Tense?
Increasing numbers of folks are busy, stressed and excessively tense these days. We live in a society that is moving at ever increasing speeds, with days (and nights) filled with business and family, maintenance of technological toys, and the pursuit of fun.
Stress takes an insidious toll. It begins creeping into every moment, more often than not going unnoticed. The result?
Chronic stress reduces immune function and increases risk of picking up a wide range of illnesses. (In fact, a study from Sweden linked job stress with a 60% increase in the risk of heart attack).
Stress can significant reduce living quality, ultimately destroying relationships and health.
What is the answer?
Fact is… the best stress reduction tool is simply doing less. (As Steven Covey asks: How many people on their death beds wish they had spent more time at the office?)
If doing a lot less isn’t possible for the time being, then it is absolutely imperative to find ways to relax, refresh and re-focus.
Stress reduction doesn’t happen by magic or with wishful thinking. It’s up to you. A combination of physical activity and conscious breathing can deliver a knock-out blow to chronic stress!
Take some time (just 4-5 minutes) to STOP (yes, stop!), breath fully and deeply and unwind. Take lots of breaks in a day, go for walks, smile as often as possible. And don’t take yourself too seriously.
Of course, Tai Chi for Busy People or 4 Minute Fitness offer effective ways to deal with stress. Key is to do SOMETHING at least once a day!

Q. Is tai chi practice appropriate for children?
A. Varies from child to child. I would suggest that you learn the moves with the precision that I teach, but let your child just follow along. The peacefulness generated can be infectious.
As well, when it comes to breathing, encourage your child to take long, slow breaths with you. Perfect for slowing down and centering. And the modeling for future is priceless.
