BC’s lost and found for money is looking for owners

BC Unclaimed Property Society is the province’s primary caretaker of unclaimed funds under the Unclaimed Property Act. We keep unclaimed money safe until we can find rightful owners.

DLon’t think “unclaimed funds” could possibly apply to you? Think again.

Funds can become unclaimed as the result of everyday life changes, such as moving homes; changing employers, banks, or insurance providers; not getting a deposit back from a business; a closed pension plan; closing a business; or even managing the estate of a family member or deceased person. Over time, these things can add up and may mean money left behind, often without the owner realizing it. Many people who find unclaimed funds say they were surprised they existed at all.

Search your name on BCUnclaimed.ca (or call toll-free 1.888.662.2877) if you have ever — lived in British Columbia;
 worked for a BC-based employer;
moved or changed addresses in BC;
used a different name;
worked for multiple or numerous employers around the province;
paid deposits or refunds you never followed up on; o
 been responsible for a business, nonprofit, or estate.

Even if you’ve searched in the past, it’s a good idea to check annually as BC Unclaimed receives new properties every month. Current holdings of $222 million and something for approximately 1 in every 31 British Columbiansmeans there’s a good chance you’ll find something for you or someone you know.
