Wake Up

A wonderful thing happened to me this morning. I woke up.

I read our local obituary page today, and noticed that several people in my community didn’t have the opportunity to wake up this morning.

When I then noticed that some of them were younger than me, I realized that I have had several more years of “waking up” than many people have the opportunity to experience.

So, for whatever reason, I got lucky. I had another opportunity to seize the day. I had another opportunity to feel and express love, to hear the eagles shriek, to smell the lilacs, to feel the rain on my skin, to listen to my favorite music.

I had another opportunity today to see and appreciate my children, my job, my tai chi, my breathing.

I had one more opportunity to be grateful for all that is my life.

Each day that you have the good fortune to wake up, I encourage you to take a few minutes to immerse yourself in the wonder and mystery of life.

To appreciate the simple pleasures that are granted to us for such a short time.

Your special time may include a walk, a few minutes of tai chi or yoga, a prayer or a few minutes in meditation. Perhaps your appreciation and celebration is found in song or music or dance.

My favorite time is found in quiet tai chi practice. Tai chi offers a delightful combination of many practices, with a multitude of possible benefits.

A few minutes of tai chi offers a chance to appreciate the flow and beauty found in movement, or a few minutes to connect with personal “chi” or energy, and a rare moment to find peace and tranquility.

A chance to center, re-focus and find balance in a hectic world.

A chance to fully appreciate each additional day.

Whatever you choose to do in appreciation, remember that each day is a gift, a brand new day that is entirely yours to create, to do with as you wish.

Spend a few minutes each day connecting with the peace and wisdom that will make this the best day of your life.

Joy to you.
