April 2009 Newsletter for Seniors on Vancouver Island
British Columbia Provincial Election: Tuesday, May 12th 2009
The world wide economic issues, serious as they are, are potentially a very convenient wall for politicians to hide behind; or a smoke screen to mask the many other urgent issues that need to be dealt with. Here on the Island one such issue is the delivery of health care services to Seniors. We owe it to ourselves, and to those around us, to ensure the candidates are not given an opportunity to hide their commitment to our well being. Attend the all candidate meetings in your area and make your concerns known. Don’t be put off by the handlers at these meetings, have your say. There are no grey areas on this matter; we need black and white answers to black and white questions. Remind them that the meeting is “a job interview” for them, and you are the employer.
Food for thought: –
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
John Emerich Edward Dalberg, Lord Acton. 1834-1902.
“I have come to the conclusion that politics are too serious a matter to be left to the politicians”.
General Charles De Gaulle. 1890-1970.
“The world is governed by those that show up and those that speak when they get there”
Unknown.
The link below is to a position statement published by the Council of Seniors Organizations of BC (coscobc) regarding this election. It is an excellent position paper and should be compulsory reading for all the candidates that are running.
Please vote on May 12th, because collectively we hold the balance of power on Vancouver Island not the politicians.
