From “Impatient” to “I’m patient” only takes five seconds!
We are “tested” on our patience every day, and every day we get the chance to practice patience. You run into situations or conversations that trigger you and sometimes you just know that you’re about to lose your temper or you allow frustration to take over. So annoying, right?
When was the last time you lost your patience?
Was it when your spouse was too late to pick you up as promised?
Was it when in the midst of a busy day your dad was rushed into the hospital?
I love this quote by Joyce Meyer: “Patience is not simply the ability to wait, it is how we behave while we are waiting”.
How do you behave when impatience kicks in?
Do you start tapping your foot, sighing loud or do you get pushy?
Do you raise your voice and start talking faster, expressing your frustration?
There are many examples that we experience day in, day out, and I know that you know them.
But how to handle it?
Let me show you a simple, effective practise I encourage you to do when you feel your patience is being tested. It will help you to reset your thoughts and feelings and shift your mindset, resulting in more joy, a calm and a clear mind and better decision making. In the moment and in the future.
- That very moment you feel you’re losing it, the “gremlins” are taking over in your head and you feel frustrated. That moment when you feel you’re gonna take it out on the other person, do this:
PAUSE! Take a deep breathe in and let it out slowly, breathing out any negative emotions and calming your mind. Take another deep breath. - Make sure to relax your shoulders and your chest area, take another deep breath.
- Stand or sit up straight so you ground yourself better and
Even if you don’t feel like it, give yourself an inner smile. You’ll be amazed by the positive impact on your mood and on others around you.
You can go from impatient to I’m patient in only 5 seconds and that may take a bit of practise.
Practising patience is important to avoid stress and it helps you boost your confidence.
Use these simple & effective steps in your daily life and don‘t forget to smile! You are awesome!
Will you be patient with yourself?
