New Regional Provincial Political Party Formed
Vancouver Island To Become a New Canadian ProvinceThe Vancouver Island Party (“VanIsle Party” or “Party” for short) has been formed for the May 9, 2017 provincial election with a two-fold mission:
To benefit more fully Vancouver Island as a region of British Columbia economically, socially, environmentally and culturally, and
To establish Vancouver Island as a province of Canada as soon as possible.
Party Leader, Dr. Robin M. Richardson, PhD, a Harvard University-educated business economist and former Canadian Member of Parliament, stated, ”Our beloved Island’s distinct way of life is under threat from severe climate change, federal and provincial government indifference and economic, social and environmental injustices.
We, our children and our grandchildren want to live in a just society with protection from the ravages of extreme climate change such as rising sea levels, depleted resources on land and in the sea, and the lack of stable, well-paying and long-lasting jobs. We also want improved health care.”
Dr. Richardson, a Pastor, further explained that the VanIsle Party has a strong sense of ethics. He said, “There is hope! Politics, but not as usual! Love, respect, reconciliation and trust, not fear! VanIslers can enjoy a strong, safe and sustainable economy, a healthy environment and the elimination of poverty before it is too late!”
All VanIsle Party candidates for elected office must sign a VanIsle Party Code of Representative Ethical Conduct and practice “Golden Rule Politics.”
Dr. Richardson stressed the urgency to his Party’s message. “We need to join together to form a new province of Vancouver Island, equal to a province for the rest of British Columbia (British Columbia province) that will join the Canadian Confederation as its eleventh province on favourable, negotiated Provincial Terms of Confederation.”
Besides lower or even free BC ferry fares for passengers and freight, lower or even free tuition and preferential hiring for Vanlsle college and university students, The VanIse Party detailed policy platform contains many other provisions, some of which would be of interest to voters in each region, city or town of Vancouver Island.
For example, a province of Vancouver Island would negotiate infrastructure investments from the Government of Canada to build a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connecting Langford to Uptown, downtown Victoria, the cruise ship terminal, the Victoria International Airport and ferry terminal and all points throughout. An LRT extension to Sooke will also be considered.
“The Vancouver Island Party is centrist in nature”, said Dr. Richardson. “We are fiscally responsible, socially progressive and environmentally green. We welcome all VanIslers, irrespective of their former political affiliation.”
Dr. Richardson concluded by urging the citizens of Vancouver Island to unite and “JOIN the VanIsle Party “Provincial Independence Movement” NOW!” His team is seeking qualified candidates in all 14 electoral districts on Vancouver Island. “We would like to have all candidates in place by the end of November”, said Dr. Richardson. “Membership is open to anyone 13 years of age and over and is only $10 per year. For a $100 donation, you get a $75 tax credit and a 5-year membership in the Vancouver Island Party”, explained Dr. Richardson.
