Vancouvrt Island University Launches Campaign to Remove Financial Barriers to Post-Secondary Education

Cost should never be the reason someone walks away from their dreams. Too many students are forced to delay – or abandon – their education because of financial pressures. Vancouver Island University is working to change that with the newly launched Ripples of Change campaign

Our goal is to raise $2 million for student scholarships, awards and bursaries by Spring 2027.

Education transforms lives and strengthens communities. When you support VIU students, you strengthen the future of Vancouver Island and the coastal communities we call home. No matter how big or small, every gift creates ripples of impact far beyond one student, one semester or one moment in time.    “

Our future depends on supporting a diverse range of people to access education, no matter their financial status,” said Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dennis Johnson. “By supporting students today, we build a healthier, more resilient region tomorrow.”

As the recipient of seven awards and bursaries, Christina Gustafsson knows firsthand the difference they make in a student’s post-secondary journey. The fourth-year Nursing student says not having to worry about how she will pay for school allows her to focus fully on learning.

“Having this support means I will have more time to study and consolidate my nursing skills as I prepare to enter the profession as a new graduate nurse. Awards such as these are what allow me to put more time and energy toward being the best nurse I can be.”
