Hospice Societies.

Hospice Societies give care to persons with serious progressive illness when cure is not expected and they have a Loan Equipment Service for palliative clients.  Support for persons dealing with grief is also  available.

Serving the Dying.

The word “Douala” comes from the ancient Greek, meaning “a woman who serves”  and it is most often used in reference to a trained and experienced professional who provides support to a woman during and immediately after childbirth.

Now, people are seeking that same type of emotional and practical support as they prepare to leave their life behind.

A Douala may choose to just sit vigil, but common practice is to take a more active role to prepare and provide patient and family care for the transition to death and afterwards.
